Tom of Finland was a Finnish artist known for his homoerotic fetish art from the 50s through the 80s. He has been called "the most influential creator of gay pornographic images" having created over 3500 images during his career. His art was definitely ahead of its time-- and as he said, showed gay men being happy when society told them to hide.

LIZ CLAIBORNE

Liz Claiborne was a fashion icon and clothing designer from the 70s through the 90s best known for her moderately priced women's sportswear separates. She was the first woman to be honored in the Fortune 500 list, having sold over a billion under her Liz Claiborne clothing line. She was also the first to suggest that department stores give her collections their own department so people could shop it as a whole.

Liz Claiborne is remembered by her iconic large oval glasses and short hair-- sophisticated and powerful. Her collections mirrored the feminist power politics of the 1980s with large shoulder pads, menswear and bold colors and prints.

X-GIRL!

In 1993, Sonic Youth lead singer/bassist Kim Gordon started a clothing line with stylist Daisy von Furth called X-Girl-- a name that references a then street wear company for boys called X-Large. The company started in LA and was known for fitted graphic tees, A-line dresses and mini skirts. The style feels very Godard-era actress meets skater, which was a drastically different style for the time. At Kokorokoko we love Pendleton. The brand is synonymous with quality and is so classically American it never goes out of style. Pendleton has been a family owned business for over 140 years. Unreal! Their plaid button-up shirts are a staple in hip hop, grunge and indie fashion as well as getting heavy rotation on the costruction site for their warmth and durability.
