Lick it up baby, lick it up
The Heathers, a darkly funny portrayal of rich bitches in the 80s, starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater. Disenchanted with her silver platter lifestyle, Ryder's character Veronica Sawyer is filled with nihilistic ennui, best captured in a scene where she writes: "Dear diary, my teen angst bullshit has a body count."
Channeling Emily Dickinson meets Sylvia Plath, Ryder's style is effortless, somber, comfortable yet dressy. She wears oversized silhouettes, with touches of menswear and baroque moments. Her accessories are always ornate focal points-- bolo ties, frog closures and brooches. Her femme fatale style distinguishes her from the popular Heathers, setting her apart from their preppy and nautical fashion, while helping to create a dark and mysterious mood.
