TOM OF FINLAND

"In those days, a gay man was made to feel nothing but shame about his feelings and his sexuality. I wanted my drawings to counteract that, to show gay men being happy and positive about who they were. Oh, I didn't sit down to think this all out carefully. But I knew - right from the start - that my men were going to be proud and happy men!" -Tom of Finland

Tom of Finland was a Finnish artist known for his homoerotic fetish art from the 50s through the 80s. He has been called "the most influential creator of gay pornographic images" having created over 3500 images during his career. His art was definitely ahead of its time-- and as he said, showed gay men being happy when society told them to hide.

Now in stock, we have 7 t-shirt designs, 6 mugs and 2 enamel pins. Check them out below! They go perfectly with vintage Pendleton flannels, silver chains and o-ring chokers.

When you put it on, something happens....

Members Only is best known for their slim and sporty, colorful men's fashion jackets in the 1980s. Herb Goldsmith, founder of Members Only, copied the style of a racing jacket he found while vacationing in Munich. This style features an elastic waistband, chest pocket with logo, shoulder epaulettes and high neck with button closure. This jacket became a staple of the 1980s closet.

Although Members Only looks like something a young Donald Trump would wear, during the 1988 election, Members Only aired a highly controversial commercial with footage of Hitler in hopes to encourage people to vote, and avoid a Trump-like tragedy.

A shot from 1985 movie, the Goonies!

In the 80s, everyone had a Members Only jacket-- there were countless celebrity endorsements! Although, by the early 90s, this brand all but faded out.

Check out some awesome Members Only jackets below!

FLY GIRLS FASHION

The Fly Girls were the dance crew for one of the most iconic 90s comedy sketch shows, In Living Color, for 5 seasons. Choreographed by famous dancing queen Rosie Perez, the Fly Girls were not only known for amazing dance skills but sick fashion! They definitely had a way of catching your attention! Over the course of the series, many members came and went, most notably Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Ann Inaba and Lisa Marie Todd!

With Halloween coming up fast, this could be a great opportunity to get your 90s fashion on and break out some funky dance moves with your friends. The Fly Girls always somehow matched, so we put together 5 looks below. Key things to keep in mind: gold jewelry, fishnets and patent leather shoes are a must! Velvet and flowy tops with fitted bottoms would be perfect too! Wear something that makes you stand out!

Going postal for mini backpacks

Mini backpacks were the go-to purse in the 90s. Leading brands like Prada and Adidas pioneered this style early on, and the cool girl in every movie always had one. (Think Clueless, Spice World, Moesha, etc) They're hard to keep in stock at Kokorokoko, but we are always on the hunt! Check out some unique styles we have below- and thanks to our associate Amina for posing outside our shop!

One bag in particular that we currently have in stock has a cool story behind it! Purple Moon was a video game company in the 90s that focused on encouraging girls friendship and decision making. This game came out during a girl games movement when video games were aimed primarily at boys. How cool that this helped pave the way for all genders to enjoy games! In 1999, this company was bought out by Mattel.

Still buggin cuz you don't have one? Go check out our Etsy!

Baby It's Cold Outside

It's finally chilly enough to treat yourself to a new coat! The statement-making outerwear of the 80s favored oversized shapes, colorblocking, and bold graphics. See below some of the winter coat styles we have at Kokorokoko! Click the picture to be directed to our Etsy if you are interested in anything!
